The Chico Chapter of the ACLU of Northern California does not possess a trained staff or attorneys authorized by our headquarters office to handle civil rights complaints.

We will evaluate complaints for the purpose of identifying potential patterns of civil rights abuses to target in our activism work, and will then refer you to our affiliate office or help direct you to appropriate resources.  If we do not believe it is a civil rights matter, we will so advise, and direct you to our affiliate office for assistance at their discretion.

If you wish to talk with a trained civil rights counselor, call our San Francisco office at (415) 621-2488 between the hours of 10:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00 on weekdays, and excepting holidays, where trained staff is available.

Please allow time for us to review and consider your complaint.  You will be contacted by a member of our board.

Butte County Sheriff Complaint Form - Unfortunately, this form was most difficult to obtain, and only after a 45 minute interrogation.  Grade: D

California Highway Patrol Complaint - Just go to their website and fill it out.  Super easy.  Grade: A


Chico Police Department - Complaint form posted on the website.  After advising Chief Mike Maloney of the fact it was not there, it became posted in about 2 hours.  This is stellar performance!  Grade: A

Chico Police Department - Complaint Process General Order.  This is the policy that provides the basis for the Department's compliance with Penal Code Section 832.5(a)

Orland Police Department Complaint Form - Just go to their website to download.  Grade: A

Oroville Police Department - Our member went to the counter.  Form provided immediately.  Grade: B
